How the Dead Pixel Checker Works
The checker fills your screen with a single solid color — no gradients, no images, just pure color. When every pixel on your display is supposed to be identical, any pixel that is not stands out immediately. A dead pixel that should be white shows as a black dot. A stuck pixel that should be blue glows red or green instead.
Seven colors are used because each one reveals a different type of fault. A stuck red sub-pixel is invisible on a red background but obvious on blue or green. Dead pixels (always black) are invisible on black but visible on every other color. Cycling through all seven ensures no defect is hidden.
Go full screen for the most accurate check — browser chrome at the edges can obscure defects near the borders. Use the Auto Cycle mode to rotate through all colors automatically, or switch manually with the color buttons.
Why Use a Dead Pixel Checker?
Dead pixel defects can appear without warning — on brand-new screens fresh from the box, and on older screens after months of use. Checking proactively makes sense in several situations:
- →Buying a new screen — run the checker within the retailer's return window (usually 15–30 days). A defect found early means a free swap.
- →Selling a used screen — document its condition honestly. A clean checker result is a selling point.
- →Before a warranty expires — manufacturer warranties typically run one to three years. Checking a month before expiry catches developing defects in time.
- →After a physical impact — dropping a phone or hitting a monitor can cause immediate or delayed pixel failures. Check after any impact.
